Betta Rescue
The Pros
The worst thing in the world you can see is when you go to a pet store or a local supermarket, only to find half or more of their fish either dead or in unhealthy conditions.
For those with tender hearts, Betta Rescue is the first thing that comes to mind. Betta Rescue is only for those people who can afford to take care of the bettas, and not have it be detrimental to their family or to their other pets. If you cannot afford to take care of it, please do not buy it. You won't be doing the fish anymore of a favor letting it die slowly on your desk than it would on a pet store shelf. |
The Cons
There is really only one con to buying betta fish from places like Walmart, Petsmart, and Petco. Whether you buy the sick and unhealthy or the fish in superb condition, you must realize that when you buy them you are only supporting the store. There will probably be more shipped in the next week if people continue to buy from them.

What are Rescue Bettas?
Pet stores like Petco and Petsmart are pretty smart about their fish because their employees are trained to take care of them. But the bettas at Walmart are mal-nourished and don't come with a care sheet with the proper instructions of how to take care of the fish. Half the time, their employees don't even know they sell live fish or know how to properly take care of a betta. The bettas from local supermarkets and the ones that are left behind during moving or mistreated by their owners are the types of bettas that actually need rescuing.
